Avetec Hosts Educator Workshop at Tecumseh Middle School

Flying paper airplanes, launching Alka-Seltzer rockets, and constructing huge poster-board helicopters… at a meeting for adults? Yes. These are just a few of the fun activities that Tecumseh Middle School teachers took part in at a teachers’ workshop.
About a week and a half before the start of the new school year, Avetec hosted a workshop for Tecumseh Middle School’s math and science teachers. Avetec’s goal in offering the half-day workshop was to present the teachers with fun and exciting ways to teach their students math, science, and technology. Throughout the meeting, Avetec staff members along with meteorologist and faculty member at Sinclair Community College Michelle Gerling provided the teachers with instructional resources and led them through a host of exciting math and science experiments.
“The hands-on format of the workshop put teachers in the student’s role. The teachers benefited by gaining an appreciation of how the student views the teacher,” said Avetec’s Education Coordinator, Judy Steritz. “They also learned that utilizing the ‘wow’ factor goes a long way in learning.”
