On November 23, 2011, former Wright Scholars from the area talked to prospective students about the Wright Scholar Research Assistant program and their experiences. Avetec hosted the event for interested Clark County high school juniors and seniors. 

The 2011 National Science Foundation Internship

The National Science Foundation has awarded Avetec and Clark State Community College funding for an internship program.  The program is a two-year partnership between Avetec, Clark State Community College and Central State University that immerses students in the fields of cyber security and high performance computing.

Aspire P-16 Collaborative Meeting Held

As a member of the Aspire P-16 collaborative, Avetec helped plan and carry out a meeting allowing business and education leaders to address the challenge of preparing students for the 21st Century workforce.

2009 WISE Academic Camp

Avetec partners with Wittenberg to co-sponsor the WISE Academic Camp each summer. The WISE Academic Camp is a residential camp for 60 students entering grades 6-8.

2009 Young Women in Science Camp

Young Women in Science (YWS) is designed to advance Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) skills for young women, as well as provide hands-on project-based learning experiences in a creative team atmosphere.

2009 Automation Robotics Summer Institute

This summer, SME, Advanced Technologies Consultant, the Ohio Department of Education and Avetec offered an Automation/Robotics Summer Institute for students entering grades 9-12 with an interest in automation and robotics.

Collaboration with GEAR UP

Avetec and GEAR UP are currently working together to provide the STARS program, an after-school program for 5th graders at Perrin Woods and Lincoln elementary schools. Through STARS, the students do hands-on math, science, and CSI-type activities that make learning science and math fun, encouraging them to stay in school and further their education. Avetec collaborates with Clark State Community College’s GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) team to help better prepare Springfield area students for college.

NSF Mentor Links

Dan Heighton and Jane Cape from Clark State Community College and Cathy Balas from Avetec are among the 10 NSF grantees for the MentorLinks program. Avetec and Clark State will work together to develop a new curriculum at Clark State for cyber security technician training.

2008 Wright Scholar Orientation

On Wednesday, April 23, Avetec held an orientation dinner for the 2008 Wright Scholars. Nine Clark County students have been selected to participate in the prestigious Wright Scholar program for 2008 out of 65 total applicants. Each student will work in a paid position this summer at the Air Force Research Laboratory in the Propulsion Directorate at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.

TechFest 2008

On February 16-17, Sinclair Community College hosted the 6th annual Miami Valley TechFest which featured hands-on, interactive exhibits and demonstrations about science, technology, engineering and math.

College and Career Day

On Tuesday, January 15, Senior College Day was hosted at North High School in Springfield, Ohio. The event was put on by GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs), a federally funded program focused on equipping middle and high school students with the necessary tools to enter and succeed in post-secondary education.

STARBASE Graduations

Each year, Springfield students graduate from STARBASE, an educational program jointly funded by Avetec and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Snowhill and Kenwood elementary schools are featured in this gallery.

Celebration of Practical Flight

This celebration of the Wright brothers' first practical flight took place on October 5th at the Huffman Prairie Flying Field at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

SPLASH Presentations

Twenty-five 8th grade students from 10 schools met at the Kissel building to share their presentations on their ideas of how to improve the community.
