Avetec Sponsors Data Intensive Computing Panel Discussion at SC06

05/14/06

AVETeC, The Advanced Virtual Engine Test Cell, is pleased to announce its participation in SC06, being held in Tampa, Florida, November 11-17, 2006.  AVETeC will be an exhibitor at the conference and is sponsoring the Data Intensive Computing Panel Discussion from 3:30-5:00 PM on Thursday, November 16, 2006.  Panelists include: Dr. Leslie S. Perkins (chair), Dr. William Kramer, Dr. Dhabaleswar Panda, Lynn Alley, Ron Bonica, Nick Werstiuk, and Randy Kreiser.

Over the past decade, computing power has increased extraordinarily, enabling researchers to tackle large complex problems.  This increased capability has resulted in massive amounts of data being produced—now in hundreds of terabytes and growing—that is causing a major performance bottleneck.  “Data intensive computing has emerged as a solution to address the problems associated with large data sets,” according to Roger Panton, Program Manager for DICE.  “DICE represents a huge step forward in the viewing, manipulation, storage, movement, sharing, and interpretation of this data.”

We encourage all SC06 attendees to stop by the AVETeC booth and to visit the Juniper Networks booth who is hosting the temporary DICE node running the DICE demonstrations.  Attendees will see firsthand how DICE is supporting the identification, investigation, and development of hardware and software solutions for problems associated with the creation and use of large quantities of data.

About SC06

SC06, the premier international conference on high performance computing, networking, storage and analysis, will convene in November 2006 in Tampa.  The SC conference has grown substantially, with registered attendance at SC|05 approaching 10,000.  SC06 will explore the ways in which high performance computing, networking, storage and analysis lead to advances in research, education and commerce.

About AVETeC

The Advanced Virtual Engine Test Cell Inc., (AVETeC) is a not-for-profit public benefit research organization. AVETeC facilitates a dramatic reduction in the cost and time it takes to design, develop and test new turbine engines for commercial and military applications.

AVETeC, with its management and integration contractor Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), manage a collaborative data intensive computing test bed called DICE.  The DICE nodes are located at AVETeC in Springfield, Ohio – collaborating with the Department of Energy, at the Department of Defense Major Shared Resource Center, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and NASA Goddard, Greenbelt, Maryland.
