5th Grade STARBASE Students Attend Reunion at Avetec
08/07/07
A group of 5th grade students came together for hands-on science and technology experiments at the STARBASE Reunion. STARBASE, a program at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base that runs through the school year, motivates 5th grade students to learn math, science and technology.
The program ended at the close of the school year, but the learning continued at the one-day reunion held at Avetec. The fun-filled activities included viewing giant 3-D images through special goggles and touring the Wittenberg University campus. One of the featured activities at the reunion was a high-tech game called Geocaching, in which the students used GPS receivers to find prizes hidden around the Avetec building.
The students at the reunion undoubtedly enjoyed their experience with the program. When asked about their favorite activity that they’ve done with STARBASE, two boys readily answered, “The rocket launch! Definitely the rocket launch!,” and excitedly explained in great detail the process of launching a rocket, a feat that many people twice their age may have trouble doing.
