Avetec Education Director Crowned the 'King of Springfield'

On November 8th, WDTN-2 & CW’s Jim Bucher made a surprise visit to Avetec to crown Education Director Cathy Balas as the “King of Springfield.”  The special crowning is a part of Bucher’s series where he finds unique and interesting people, places, and things and crowns the “king of the town.”

The surprise event commenced as Balas began an early morning meeting with Avetec’s Lead Instructor Brian Kuhn, who secretly nominated her for the honor.  Kuhn scheduled a meeting with the director under the pretense of needing to interview her for an education newsletter. 

Thirty minutes into the bogus interview, Jim Bucher entered her office, dressed in a stately red velvet robe with a crown and golden scepter, followed by a WDTN cameraman.  Bucher, known for his “zany” news segments, presented Balas with a certificate and crowned her the “King of Springfield.”
