Avetec congratulates Bill Pike, one of this year’s winners of the prestigious Fitzner/Eberhardt Award, the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory Director’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Science and Engineering Education.  Bill is a scientist with the Computational and Statistical Analytics Division at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratories (PNNL).  His honor is for his work with students, including the Avetec sponsored Clark State Community College students who had internships at PNNL last year.

Michael Kluse, PNNL Laboratory Director, says, “[Bill has] demonstrated a remarkable commitment to science education…making invaluable contributions to inspiring and developing the next generation of scientific and technical professionals.”

Cathy Balas, Avetec’s Director of Education and Communications, agrees, “I had the pleasure of working with Bill when I visited PNNL and as we set up the Clark State internships.  He showed tremendous interest in working with community college students and definitely inspired them to go after their highest aspirations.”

Ronda Black, one of the Clark State interns who worked at PNNL and now works at Avetec says, “Bill gave us the ability to gain real world experiences which enhanced our abilities for today’s work force. The time and effort Bill devoted to our internship will not be forgotten as he has changed our lives with his kindness and expertise.”

Clark State professor Dan Heighton adds, "Bill was highly committed to the success of the Clark State student internship project.  He provided opportunities for students to get involved in a variety of science and technology-based learning activities during their time at the lab.  Through Bill's efforts the students returned from their internship experience with more clearly defined career goals and higher levels of motivation."
